First Book Review: I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (Tucker Max)

21 Aug

This was one of the first books I read this summer, and I should start off by saying if you’re planning on a smart read, this is not the book for you. However, if you enjoy drunken shenanigans as much as I do, then pick this one up. The book, which is a collection of short, true stories, of Tucker Max mostly consisting of drunken sexcapades started out hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud at several points. However, after a couple of the stories, it becomes incredibly repetitive, where every story follows the same basic plot line. Went to a bar, got really drunk, spent lots of money, and left with a new sex buddy. It starts to become so predictable that about half way through the book I completely lost interest and was determined to finish it as soon as possible just because I can’t start another book without finishing one, yeah I’m OCD like that. The way Max also writes the stories, in which he is “the man”, names a high level of drunkenness after himself, “Tucker Max drunk”, and all around seems to write this book only to boost his ego becomes largely off-putting. I am glad I read the book and enjoyed it for the most part, but I’m not going to read any of his other works. If you’re looking for an easy read about booze and sex, this is a good fit for you
